Why need Precision Air Conditioner in hospital’s MRI and CT room?

Cold, hot, cool, warm are the direct feelings of human body to the weather, so usually people pay more attention to the weather temperature than other factors. In fact, our air quality is affected by many factors such as temperature, humidity, cleanliness and so on. Any factor which goes wrong will bring bad effect on people’s health. However, such factors as humidity and cleanliness usually effect on people’s health in an indirect and unobvious way within a long term and they are easily ignored.

It is well known that temperature shows the hot or cold level of an object. What is humidity? In general, humidity shows the ratio between vapor in air and saturated vapor in air under a certain pressure. The humidity level is indicated as %RH, for example 45%RH. The experiment shows the most comfortable temperature range for human body is 18-250C and the most suitable humidity range is as below:

Too hot or too cold will make people feel uncomfortable and even cause heatstroke or frostbite. Lower humidity is dry. Based on the research on epidemic, scientists find out that in the dry winter, the chance of affected by epidemic disease is highly increased. Dry conditions will lead to excessive loss of water to speed up the aging of life. Wet condition can keep life abundant. As winter coming, it’s obvious that our sweater bursts sparklets when we take it off at night. It is caused by static electricity in the dry air. Static electricity brings over 2000 or even several ten-thousand static voltage on human body and is very harmful. However, the humid condition will lead to irritancy or other diseases such as rheumatism and so on.

So you may see that the temperature and humidity has great impact on people’s health. For the same reason it also has great impact on the performance of medical equipments.

First of all, medical equipments are used for people. Temperature and humanity affects people’s health and emotion directly.

Secondly, today’s equipments usually are made of all kinds of precision mechanical & electric boards, information store parts and image display units. If the room temperature is too high, it will lead to poor heat emitting. Then the circuits are often unable to work or even damaged. If the room temperature is too low, it will lead to bad performance of the circuit and lubricating system of the equipment. In a very humid room, due to condensation water vapor will be liquefied and attached to the electrical components, leading to changes in electrical performance. The long term rusting of precision machinery surface would reduce the precision, and even give rise to X-ray high-voltage discharge or blow wear (ball control and display, etc.). The static caused by low humidity will lead to data loss of computer memory. The sparks can even cause explosions and fire, endanger the physical and equipment security.

So it is important to create a safe environment for medical equipments by controlling temperature and humidity. Normal Air Conditioners can fulfill the requirement on temperature but not on humidity. Climate varies in different places. In dry area, humidifier can be very useful. According to the research, when humidity level reaches 45%RH, static electricity no more exists. Static electricity is the result of high resistance between dry objects in the air. In wet area, dehumidifier is necessary. As to the expensive medical equipments like MRI, precision control on temperature and humidity level is necessary. The equipments themselves also emit huge heat to the air. Then Precision Air Conditioner which can maintain constant room temperature and humidity will be the best choice.

According to the emitting heat of the MRI, if the size of computer room is 100m2,, the heat emitting volume is 300W/ m2, then total volume will be 100X300=30KW. Normally, one set PFA35 module will be good enough.
